Boss

When a manager gets mad and then writes a nasty threatening letter and demands you sign it, do you have the right to refuse to sign ?

Yes and in an at-will employment state, they have a right to fire you for any reason other than discrimination and a couple of other things.

You should be careful in what you "refuse" to do simply to avoid being insubordinate, but even if you should sign the document you can always write that you do not agree what's been written.
