Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Final paycheck was short

I file a 1099 and was recently terminated after being bullied to sign a new non-compete after 5 years of employment. He would make no changes or negotiate any clause with me so he fired me. It was so unreasonable, I could not sign it. He then withheld all my commissions earned for June 08. He owes me about $7k. Will the Florida DOL help me since I'm an indep contractor?

No, the DOL won't be able to assist you. If you were the procuring cause for the sale, you are entitled to your commissions even if terminated. You should consult with an attorney. If you would like to discuss the matter further, please feel free to contact my office.

No -- that is not the DOL's job. You will need to file suit if they will not pay you.
