Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

Wedding disaster

I am trying to find out what my rights are for breach of contract. I recently paid about $2000.00 to have a wedding in the Bahamas at a private resort on their beach. I went through a US based wedding consultant that specialized in this location. Keep in mind that I paid money in at advance to reserve the location. It was approx 5 month prior to the event and have a contract that states $150.00 to guarantee such in such Resort for the location of your wedding I took about 25 people with me. The morning of my wedding I got off the boat and meet my contact in the Bahamas. She at this point (5 hours prior to my wedding) tells me that the resort canceled my wedding. I spent my entire day look for a new location. Needless to say there was other things I did not get that were listed on the contact. Then I find out that this Resort does not allow events to take place unless you are a guest of the facility. There is more to the story but this is the jest. Then they told me I never had a reservation. So do I have a leg to stand on if I take this to court? Thank you for your help

Re: Wedding disaster

I agree with the previous poster. The only thing that I can add is that the question occurs to me of whether you had any type of trip/cruise insurance, either through the company that booked the cruise or, possibly, your credit card, if this is how you paid for the deal. You should consult with a local attorney who can look over all the docs.

Re: Wedding disaster

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is that you need to gather all of the documentation concerning your trip and read all of the fine print. You say that you have a contract. Who was the other party to the contract (the resort, the wedding consultant, etc.)? Is there anything in the contract concerning liability for services not provided? You need to read all your documents carefully. They can determine whether or not you have a viable claim.
