Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Obtaining replacement of a lost will

I need a copy of the will of my deceased wife, Jean I.--name removed-- It was executed 4/15/71, in Mt. Prospect, IL. Do I need a lawyer to get a copy, or is this something I can do by myself? If so, whom should I contact?

Re: Obtaining replacement of a lost will

The will should be on file with the clerk of the court of the county where she resided at her death, if she died while residing in Illinois, and the will was so filed by the person in possession of it at your wife's death. The appropriate clerk should provide you with a copy of it for a nominal copying fee if it was so filed. If you experience difficulties, you may wish to hire a lawyer to help you. Please feel free to call me if you need help. Larry Stein (630) 221-1755.
