How do I do battle from 1100 miles away?

I currently reside in Pinellas county, FL and while in Indiana visiting family I was served with a summons to appear because I am being sued for support. The child was born out of wedlock and when the mother and I last spoke (6 months ago), she stated that she had met with a couple and was giving the baby up for adoption, we havn't spoken since. I am currently married and the child is the product of an extramarital affair that my wife now knows about, she is aware of the child and will support whatever action I take. I am in college and my wife pays the bills. Is my wife's income fair game for a support ruling? Is there a way to find out how much I would have to pay? Do I have any chance for custody? Am I going to have to drive to Indiana for hearings to settle this matter? Why wasn't I contacted in Florida?

Florida Law - You were served in Indiana and thus they now have personal jurisdiction meaning you availed yourself to the Courts in Indiana and they can now continue on with tbeir support case. You should contact an attorney in Indiana immediately to discuss this matter. You had a baby with this woman and now she is seeking child support. She can not seek support from your current wife. But she can and probably will go forward with her case to get support from you. This can get very complicated so I suggest that you contact an attorney immediately, in Indiana since that is where the case will be heard. To contact an attorney in Indiana you should contact the Indiana Bar. Locate an attorney in the county where the case was filed.
