Hello. I would like to know why a lawyer will advice for limited divorce in a case of abusive marriage instead of going for the disolution of marriage? Thank you much.

That would depend on the nature of the abuse. For example, verbal abuse is not considered sufficient grounds for an absolute divorce. In order to be granted an absolute divorce, you must be able to establish cruelty of treatment and/or excessively vicious conduct on the part of your spouse. The attorney may have felt that the abuse did not rise to the level necessary to be granted an absolute divorce.
