Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland
if i was employed and then terminated and filed for unemployment and my employer lied so i was denied the insurance i appealed and now we are going to the final stage in circuit court my question is if i win my case and i am awarded my insurance can i sue my previous employer for defamation cause what they said did directly effected me from getting unemployment for the past 1 1/2 yrs and if so for what amount ? Statements made during a litigation process are generally not subject to defamation suits. I suggest you focus on the outcome of your unemployment compensation appeal. If you are successful, you should get benefits going back to when you filed, so you wouldn't have any out of pocket loss.
