Is it legeal for a job to say that you quit, when you were fired ? I dont have a termination letter it was done over the phone?

It depends on the circumstances. You were not at your place of employment when you were fired (you wrote i was done over the phone). If you were supposed to be at work at that time and were not, the employer may construe that as your quit. If there are different circumstances, please feel free to contact me to discuss.

If they are truly lying, it is likely it is being done to deny you unemployment compensation. If they called you at night to tell you this, was in on a cell phone or land line. If it was a cell phone, you should have a record that they initiated the call. Also, you should have proof that you were at work during your scheduled times. The more evidence you have ready for any unemployment compensation challenge, the better off you will be at the hearing.

If they are truly lying, anticipate that this lie will continue during the hearing.
