Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

My very young daughter was sexually assaulted by my father-in-law repeatedly. I called the police as soon as I found out, and he now sits in jail awaiting trial. As soon as it got out, I received multiple phone calls from relatives who claimed to be former victims of his or parents of former victims, all of whom remained silent allowing him to get away with his crimes. Some are happy I called the police and am seeking justice, others are angry with me. They wish I had kept it in the family as they had done. If they had not kept silent, my children would not have been in danger. Is there anything legal I can do after the conviction about those who protected him for all those years endangering countless children?

The prosecution should be made aware of all past victims, who may be able to increase penalties etc. You may also wish to pursue civil liability for failing to warn, negligence etc.

I can direct you to resources which may be helpful for you to get through this.

I hope you are seeking counseling both for you and your daughter to deal with this terrible circumstance.
