Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Banned from a Supermarket

Recently I had inadvertantly left a item worth $6 in my shopping cart and left the store without paying for it (everything esle was paid for). As I approached my car someone pulled me back in the store and told me I had stollen an item. I told them that it was not on purpose and offered to pay. They refused my money then banned me from the Store but told me they would not press charges. Do I have any legal rights to continue to shop at this store? Do they have the right to ban me for this? It was very embarrassing and I spend lots of money in this store and shop there often for my household goods. Please help!!

Re: Banned from a Supermarket

Yes, they can ban you. Go some where else or talk to the general manager about it.

Actually they do have the right. However, perhaps you can return to the store and try to straighten it out and pay for the item. The fact that you are returning may change the perception. However, you need ot do this before you try shopping. If they refuse, you will need to accept their position.
