Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Alimony & Child Support guidelines in NJ?

I have been told that after 10 yrs of marriage in the state of NJ, you are entitled to alimony - permanent or until you remarry. Is this true? If not how is alimony determined or calculated? Should child support be reduced in 2 years if the children are under the age of 10?

NO, there is no hard and fast rule for alimony at 10 years, it varies based on numerous factors. Child support depends on a number of factors, mainly the mother's income, father's income and number of children, plus quite a few other factors. The Judges must refer to 'Child Support Guidelines', as set out in the court rules.
