Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

do we owe??

my father passed away recently and had stayed in a nursing home prior to that. He was receiving veterans disability checks prior to going into the home. The dav said that in order for him not to have to pay for his stay at the home he would have to forfeit his disability checks. We agreed. He only stayed there 7 days before he passed away and we did not sign anything stating we would be responsible for the bill. Now they are billing us for 1200.00 for room and board. My question is are we legally required to pay that bill even though he had no estate money wise or other? The only thing left to us was a couple of very small insurance policies made in my name and another sibling and that will cover funeral expenses. Your help would be appreciated because the nursing home is saying that we need to pay.

Re: do we owe??

If there is no contract to guarante payment, then you are probably not responsible for the bill. However, the nursing home will want to see that the estate was "insolvent".
