Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania
Slipped on ice & fell in parking lot
My husband stepped out of his truck onto parking lot which apparently had black ice and immediately fell, striking his head on his running board on the way down. He informed an employee of the injury & was seen by a doctor later that morning. He is still being told not to work by doctor due to injuries. What can we do about geting reimbursed for medical bills, & lost time from work (self-employed)?

it depends. First, was he working at the time that he fell. Where did the incident occur? The owner or person responsible for salting or both may be liable. You are going to need to go after the insurance company for the responsible entity. Let me know if I can help.

1. I need more info. If your husband was considered to be on his job at the time, it's covered by worker's comp (WC) & the WC insurer will pay the bills & any lost wages. If he was not on the job, than his auto ins co will pay under what we call no-fault. The auto ins co is not allowed to raise your rates if it pays med bills.
2. In addition, your husband may have a claim for his injuries against the owner of the parking lot (if it wasn't his employer) for allowing an icy condition to exist. I would be glad to discuss these issues with you or your husband. I have 30 years experience handling injury claims & am famiar with all these issues. There is no fee for discussing this with me. In any case, your husband should speak with an attorney experienced in injury claims. Good luck!!
Re: Slipped on ice & fell in parking lot
So far, your husband has taken the correct steps-by informing someone of the accident and promptly seeking medical attention.
If he has no available health insurance, then there are medical providers that will accept letters of protection and will be paid out of any settlement or judgement. I would need more information to determine if that is a wise choice. As for wages losses, that too would be sought in a claim against the parking lot owner.
Please contact me if you would like to meet, at no charge, to review your case and options. I have several locations.
I would not wait too long, as he needs medical treatment and to put the owner of the property on written notice of his claim.

I need more info before being able to give good advice. Please ask your husband to call me or send me an email so we can communicate that way (of course, no fee unless I actually get your husband money for his injuries and work loss).
