Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Paternity test

I am engaged to be married, my fiance just revealed that he might have a child. Six years ago when he was 17 he and many other guys had sex with the same girl. The girls mother called his mother in regards to who the father of the child was. To this day he does not know who the father of that child is and it is haunting him.If it is his child he wants to do ''his part''. I can understand and would like to help get things cleared up before we get married. Any information would be of great help. What are the steps that need to be taken??I am lost.

Thank you,

sandy

Re: Paternity test

The most painless route would be to contact the mother of the child and ask her if she would consent to a test to determine if your fiance is the father. If so, then he can do "his part." If she will not consent, then your fiance can file an action in the Family Court for a Determination of Paternity and seek a court order requiring her to submit to the test. Good luck.
