regaining custody of my 15 year old son

My son has been in the custody of his father for the past 6 years. He now wishes to live with me. His father has him in home school and my son wishes to go to public school. My son also claims my ex-husband is abusing him physically and mentally. (this i believe because he was abusive to me) My son ran away last week and came to me. I have been informed that he cannot be removed from my home since i am the mother. I need to get him enrolled in school asap but do not have custody. how do i do this?

You need to file a Custody action in the family court.
