Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

debt warrant

My son who is seventeen has quite school. recently he and some friends vandalized a school and was ordered to pay restitution and do community service. I Live in Virginia and have been paying support for 15 years. She has sole custody of the boy. My ex wife and her husband payed to keep him from going to juvenile detention. Now they have took a warrant in debt against me for half of what it cost. I was not even informed of all the court issues ubtil one day before his court. My divorce decree states that I am only responsible for support and half of medical bills. I want to know if I am liable in the state for paying a debt that I did not make. He is old enough to work and pay his own debt.

Re: debt warrant

Very unlikely, unless somehow you as one of the boy's parents was held to share in responsiblity for whatever had to be paid to keep the boy from going to juvenile detention.
