Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

Protection of home

I would like to know if my home was put in my name alone would I be protected from any legal actions against my husband. I am 58 (not employed), spouse is 64 and retired. He is an alcoholic and continues to drive under the influence and I am extremely concerned about the possibility of losing everything including the roof over my head as a result of his actions and any lawsuits that could be taken as a result of them. Thank you for your help.

Re: Protection of home

Removing your husband's name from the title to your house would greatly insulate you against lawsuits against him, but it must be done BEFORE he is sued because the law provides creditors against what are called fraudulent conveyances of real estate to avoid a debt.

Call me if you like.
