registered letter from debt collector

I recieved a lregistered letter from 1 of my credtcard debts.My debt with this company totals 1354. Will they pursue this with garnished wages next or what?Guess i just want too rid myself of this is it too late for payments because they're letter seems too say otherwise.This is a 5 year old debt from 2001.Does that matter also?

If all you have received is a letter, then they cannot proceed with garnishment. They would have to file a lawsuit against you and obtain a judgment against you. Once the judgment was obtained, they could proceed with garnishment.

It shouldn't be too late to settle this. Soemtimes, collection agencies wont allow for payment plans and will only accept payment in full. However, I have negotiated settlements or payment plans on behalf of people before where the collection agency has not accepted this arrangement initially. Regarding the time frame, they can still pursue the debt. In Ohio, the statute of limitations on an oral contract is 6 years and 15 years on a written contract.
